Over the last two years it has been incredibly difficult to recruit new volunteers, which has been compounded by several senior swimmers leaving for university, resulting in the need for additional volunteers. With membership numbers recovering and an increase in pool time, the club needs additional Assistant Coaches to support the Head Coach in delivery of training. There is no requirement to having a swimming background or being an experienced swimmer yourself. All you need is a willingness to have a go, learn and enthusiasm. Training will be provided where you could start by volunteering to assist a qualified coach poolside to see if you like the role. Coaches help swimmers to grow their capability and develop the skills and techniques to achieve their full potential. An assistant coach can start by simply helping during training sessions, with the option of taking formal training courses. In return for a commitment to volunteer with Chorley Marlins for 1-2 hours a week the club will support you in achieving a coaching qualification through experience and funding. The first level of qualification focuses how and what to coach. Once completed, coaches are qualified to actively support a more senior qualified or licensed coach at any level, in the delivery of a pre-prepared session. The team did amazingly well today. After a slow start and lying in third place as the gala progressed, they gained in confidence and started to pull back the points finishing in first place. The exciting final event of the gala, a Cannon Relay race involving one boy and one girl from each age group, was also won by Chorley. Special mentions for Elizabeth Shears and Magnus Overell, who swim for half an hour per week with Mini Marlins. Also welcome to our new swimmer Jack Calderbank who did the team proud on his first ever gala. The whole team are a credit to Chorley Marlins. The team received a complement from one of the officials on the amount of support and encouragement the team gave to all our swimmers. Well done everyone, I am proud of you all.
