We are considering running Rookie Lifeguard courses again if there is sufficient interest. This will be delivered in six-week blocks and is aimed at swimmers aged 8 - 12 who can comfortably swim 25 metres. Built into the programme are lessons in valuable survival, rescue and sports skills…all delivered in an exciting way that will get children involved and motivated. The course can run parallel to your child’s current swimming and will enhance the skills they learn in the pool. For many Rookie Lifeguards, the programme offers the first opportunity to explore water safety, gradually gaining independence and confidence while learning vital life skills. Our programme will inspire and embolden your child, helping them keep themselves, their friends and their family safe in the water through a range of fun activities that lead towards a series of awards. Rookie Lifeguard is aimed at children – though the skills learned through the course of the programme are just as valuable to people of all ages. The scheme begins with Stage 1 of the Bronze Award and progresses to Stage 3 of the Gold Award, progressing to the level where our Rookie Lifeguards perform impressive lifesaving tows. The cost will be £30 for a six-week course with a likely start date in April excluding Easter. We are considering a timeslot of 6:30pm on Saturday evenings at All Seasons Chorley. If you think your child may be interested, please comment below. We are considering offering members bespoke designed Chorley Marlins hooded towels and would like to gage interest.
There are three design options for the Club to choose from. These are 450gsm Polyester/Cotton (60/40) Hooded Towels. Print side: Polyester, Reverse inside: Cotton (White). The towel has an inner valuables pocket. Towel sizes with length measured from the shoulder are: S:75cm L x 65cm W M:95cm L x 75cm W L:105cm L x 75cm W These would be available to members for £35.00 each. We would be grateful if you could say in the comments section which of the three design options you like best and if you might be interested in ordering one. Chorley Marlins are limited to thirty spectators for this Sundays Southport SC Shrimp Gala at Huyton. Tickets are required for entry and are available for £5.00 each.
Can we please only request one ticket per family and if there are too many requests we will prioritise new team members who's parents haven't had the chance to see them race before. If you would like a ticket please comment below with your swimmers name. Thank you to all those who have confirmed availability for Sunday, if you haven't yet can you please do so as soon as possible here. The dates for our three club galas for 2022 are:

We would expect to see all Development Group and Squad swimmers entering these galas. The date for a Mini Marlins Gala is still to be confirmed. Chorley Marlins ASC has experienced much success over the years, and we want to continue developing the Club to ensure our members continue to have opportunities to develop their swim ability and participate in competitive swimming. The Club is run by volunteers and, as the Club grows its membership again after the last two difficult years, more volunteers are desperately needed to help spread the load and keep everything running smoothly. If you have ever considered volunteering, then now would be the perfect time to get in touch.
These are some of the ways you can support the Club: Committee Membership Like most swim clubs, Chorley Marlins is run by a voluntary Committee, a group of committed volunteers who give up their time and work together to ensure the smooth running of the Club for all our members and support the ongoing development of the Club. We always welcome new members to our club committee and want your voice to be heard for us to make Marlins the best club it can be. Current committee vacancies include: Secretary To ensure the smooth running of the club’s administrative requirements. The role includes organising committee meetings and AGMs, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and distributing and communicating these as appropriate. Sponsorship & Press Officer To promote and publicise information about the club with local media and help secure external sponsorship and funding. Parent Liaison Officers We are looking to re-establish Parent Liaison Officers for the different squads as a key link between the Club and parents. They will help promote clear and effective club communication and ensure parents feel supported and have someone to go to should they have any questions or concerns. Gala Volunteers As a competitive swimming club, our internal galas are important in the development of our swimmers. We rely on the support of volunteers to make these a success and simply cannot do it without help. Our next Club gala will be on Sunday March 20th at Darwen Leisure Centre. Roles that need filling on gala days include the following: Timekeeper We require a sufficient number of qualified timekeepers to run galas. The Timekeeper course is for club members, parents and volunteers who want to help deliver events. By becoming a timekeeper, you will get a glimpse into the vital world of officiating. The course covers what being a timekeeper is all about through an interactive e-learning which will take you approximately an hour to complete, followed by a practical timekeeping session. This can be completed during a club gala or time trial evening. You can find out more here. Runners These are people who transfer results from poolside to the timing suite and post results etc. Marshalls People who look after and organise the swimmers poolside, moving them from the marshalling area to line up ready for racing. Heat sheets are provided, and you place the swimmers in lane order ready for their race. Door Entry We need two people to staff the door, collect spectator entry fees and sell raffles tickets, swim caps, drinking bottles etc. Medals We need volunteers to staff the medal table. Results sheets are provided throughout the gala and you just need to tick off names when medals are collected. Support for external galas Chaperone A vital role attending poolside at external galas (where your own child(ren) is/are swimming) to work in a team in ensuring swimmers are sent to the gala's Marshalling area when requested to do so by the gala staff, and generally chaperone the Club's swimmers whilst poolside. Train as a Swimming Coach We would like to hear from anyone interested in becoming a swimming coach. Read more here. Poolside Helper Poolside helpers supports the delivery of club sessions under the supervision of a qualified teacher or coach. Ideally older Club swimmers, 14 plus, looking to support and train younger Club swimmers under the leadership of our Coaching staff. Volunteering also helps older swimmers to re-affirm their own swimming techniques and promotes interaction between the Club squads. This can be as part of the Young Volunteer Award. The Young Volunteer Award is designed to provide young people, between the age of 14 and 17, the opportunity to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to prepare them as Volunteers within Aquatic Sport. You can find out more here. Sponsorship By becoming a sponsorship partner, your business can increase the awareness of your brand and the products or services that you can offer in our local (or wider) community. Sponsoring is not only a very cost effective way to market your business but also increases your profile in a positive way. As we approach our Golden Anniversary year we would like to hear from businesses willing to support the club including a Principle Club Sponsor, Club Gala sponsors, team sponsors and website advertisers. If you would like to support the Club in any of the ways outlined above or find out more please contact us or speak with a committee member. The Micro League will resume on February 26th. As the club has not competed in the league since the 2020 season was suspended some parents will not be aware of the Micro League North West. The Micro League North West League is designed to encourage competitive swimming for young swimmers between the ages of 9 and 12 years. It is one of the three league competitions which Chorley Marlins participates in each year. The swimming Micro League North West is one of eleven leagues that are affiliated to The Arena Junior Inter-League Swimming Competition. The Northwest league is split into three divisions (A, B, & C), Chorley Marlins competes in Division B. Swimmers compete in events for their age group and gender. Teams in each league compete in FOUR matches against other teams in the same division. Points are awarded based on the position within each event (four points for first place down to one point for fourth place). The total points in all events, in all four meets contribute to the final position of a club within their division. The competition is for swimmers aged 9 to 12 years. A minimum of four boys and 4 girls are needed in each of the 9, 10, 11 and 12 years age groups. Age groups shall be determined by the age of the swimmer as at midnight on the last Sunday in November in the year of the competition. For the 2022 competition this will be Sunday 27th November. The dates for league fixtures for Chorley Marlins are: 26th February 19th March 26th June 9th July To decide the overall annual winner of the North West Micro League, the top four teams from the North West’s Division A teams will compete in a final match during September. The winning team from the final progresses to the Northern Finals. If they are successful and win the Northern Final this club will be entered for the National Final where they will swim against the finalists from all the other regions top Micro-League swimming clubs. For Division B & C, the top two teams from Division B and the bottom two teams from Division A compete in a swim-off on the same day as the final. This match will determine either the promotion or the relegation of those teams. The top two teams from these swim-offs will then compete the following year in Division A, with the bottom two teams competing in Division B. There are similar swim-offs between the bottom two teams from Division B and the top two from Division C, again these matches will determine the relegation or promotion of these teams for the following year. These galas are a combination of individual and relay races. There are both male and female races for each of the events below: In addition to the above 48 events there is 1 cannon race at the end to finish the gala. This is where one male and one female from each year group take part in a freestyle relay race.
Mary will select a team prior to each fixture which will be published on the website. The Southport Swimming Club Shrimp Gala will take place on Sunday 13th February 2022. Chorley Marlins are planning on entering a team for this, so please keep the date free if possible. Mary will select a team of swimmers aged 9-12 years (age is as on 27/11/2022). All events will be 4 x 1Length relay teams. The meet will take place at Huyton Leisure Centre, Knowsley Leisure And Culture Park, Longview Drive, Huyton, Liverpool L36 6EG.
