Monday 29th June 2020 to Sunday 12th July 2020 Swimmers from Leyland Barracudas and Chorley Marlins ages 12+ will have the chance to compete against each other in a challenge and the club with the furthest distance wins. This challenge will help build up your fitness as the return to the pool gets closer and help a group of Young Aquatic Volunteers complete their qualifications. Over the two weeks you will be required to cover as many miles as possible in any way you can - cycling, running, walking, cross trainer - basically any form of exercise is acceptable (i.e walking the dog) so long as it can be verified and recorded e.g. on Strava. The challenge will run from 6am on Monday 29th June until 5pm on Sunday 12th July. You will need to submit your data (details to follow) at the end of each week (Sunday 5th July for week 1 and Sunday 12th July for week 2 between 12 noon and 6pm) the data will then be collated and the teams will be updated to establish who is in the lead and by how far etc. Please confirm your swimmers place in the comments section below. Any questions please ask in the comments or contact Mary by email: [email protected] Deadline for entries - Friday 26th June 2020 Good luck! Marlins swimmer Harry Quigley has found a way to continue to train during the lock down, despite the water being only 8 degrees . After watching videos on Off the Blocks Harry hopes to improve his technique further. Well done Harry, keep it up. Mary has recommended that Chorley Marlins swimmers sign up for Off the Blocks, a free resource from British Swimming.
The online resources cover technique and include video examples of elite Male & Female swimmers, plus age group Male & Female exemplars, as well as downloadable factsheets. It also covers land training, nutrition and guidance for parents on how to support their child. Registration is required in order to access the site, details of which can be found at: http://offtheblocks.info/ Supporting Swim Education during the Coronavirus outbreak, for the next few weeks GoSwim.tv will be opening up their entire platform for free. For a limited time, all free user plans have access to GoSwim Pro which normally costs $9.99 a month. Go to http://www.goswim.tv/ and create your free account and then search for the videos that are just right for you. With Chorley Marlins training currently suspended, a reminder that standing orders for payment of training fees for April onwards should be paused / cancelled with your bank until training resumes.
Standing order payments apply to the month they are received in, so any payment received during March covers training during that month. So for example payments received on 1st, 15th or 31st March are all treated the same. Therefore standing orders should be stopped from the 1st April. We hope you and your families are keeping safe and well. With swimming training unavailable for the immediate future, here are some more resources to help you to maintain your fitness.
