We are very sad to announce that all Chorley Marlins training will cease with immediate effect. All training is cancelled until further notice. The Leisure Centre has now closed following the Government announcement that all gyms and leisure centres must close from tonight.
We are all in uncharted territory and none of us wants to be in this position. We don’t know what will happen in the coming weeks, but we will follow the guidance of Swim England and the Government and update you all accordingly. Chorley Marlins ASC still goes on during these difficult times and so we will be communicating regularly as to any updates or useful information we can share so that we all stay connected. We are looking at ways to keep our swimmers fit, healthy and engaged during this period and so hope to be able to share some useful advice on how to do so shortly. Please stay tuned for these updates by signing up to our newsletter here. Regarding fees it is our plan that membership will be paused during the suspension of training. Please cancel standing orders with your bank until training resumes. Feel free to reach out with any questions or thoughts you may have on how to keep the club and its swimmers connected during this period. We hope you and your families stay safe and healthy in these unprecedented times. Chorley Marlins ASC continues to review training during the coronavirus outbreak taking account of Swim England and Government guidance. We are also in consultation with the leisure centre operators, Active Nation.
We have taken the decision that Saturday 21st March will be the final Mini Marlins swimming lessons until further notice. This is due to the number of children involved and the amount of time out of the water. There are also more parent spectators in the cafe and on the balcony for these lessons. Training will continue as scheduled for all other swimming squads, but this is an ever-changing situation and other changes may be required. The Pool Water Treatment and Advisory Group has confirmed that coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine used in swimming pools. The majority of the time is spent in the water during training sessions for the swim squads. Swimmers are reminded to shower before using the pool, to shower on leaving the pool and to follow the necessary hygiene precautions when visiting public places to help reduce the risk of infection. If you have any symptoms, a high temperature and / or a new continuous cough or have been in contact with anybody who has, you should not attend training. Spectators should follow government guidance on social distancing. Since the Sprint Meet has been postponed, Sunday evening training will run as normal at Chorley this week. There will be no morning training at Brinscall this Sunday. To keep up to date with training changes you can sign up for our newsletter here SENW has taken the decision to cancel the forthcoming Regional Age and Youth Championships. The decision has been taken following the Government’s announcement to implement increased social distancing, avoid crowds gathering and carrying out unnecessary travel.
Cancelling events is not a decision to take lightly but following the latest announcement from the Government it is only right and fair to our clubs and members that we make this announcement. We understand the frustration of those who have been training hard for our competitions, but the health and wellbeing of our athletes, coaches and volunteers is of paramount importance to us. Information regarding refunds for entries and coaches passes will be communicated later this week once the process has been established. We would like to apologise to everyone for any inconvenience and disappointment these cancellations may cause but hope you understand this decision has been taken out of our hands due to the unprecedented situation we are facing. On behalf of: SENW Management Board Unfortunately the decision has been taken to cancel / postpone the Sprint Meet which was due to take place on Sunday at Darwen.
The decision has been taken in consultation with BwD Leisure following the Government’s announcement to implement increased social distancing, avoid crowds gathering and carrying out any unnecessary travel. Swim England has also cancelled a number of their forthcoming events due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. We understand the frustration of those who were due to compete but the health and wellbeing of our members, coaches and volunteers is of paramount importance to us. It is our intention to reschedule the Sprint Meet as soon as it is safe to do so. Entry fees will be held as a credit for the rescheduled gala or a refund can be requested by emailing [email protected]. There will also be the opportunity to request a refund if the date of the rescheduled gala is unsuitable. Swim England made the following statement on 16th March regarding club swimming training: “At present the Government has not closed schools or restricted school activity and therefore we do not see any reason why clubs should not continue with their training programmes in their own environment within the guidelines of the facility” Chorley Marlins training is planned to continue as scheduled including training as normal this Sunday. Active Nation has implemented new cleaning measures to combat COVID-19 and the chlorine within swimming pools will help to kill the virus. The club will continue to follow Government and Swim England advice and guidance. An update is expected this evening from Swim England. Changes may be required to training and will be posted on our website. Unfortunately the Micro League Northwest fixture which was due to take place on Sunday March 15th has been cancelled / postponed.
We will update with more information when we have it. The North Lancashire Swimming Association committee has taken the decision to postpone this weekend’s North Lancashire Swim League gala at Palatine Leisure Centre on Saturday 14th March 2020.
"I hope you will join me in supporting this postponement. At the time of writing it is still our intention to swim Round 3 as planned on Saturday 20th June 2020 and we will endeavour to find a suitable date (if possible and agreeable with all competing clubs) to cover this postponement and complete the Swim League season in full.
